The most complete Volume Profile on any retail trading platform

Most platforms give you a volume histogram and call it Volume Profile. SabrTrader gives you the whole auction: five color modes, five profiling methods, a full Market Profile with TPO, developing value in real time, volume nodes, Initial Balance, naked and migrating POC tracking, single prints, day types, and a built-in alert engine. If you trade from the profile, this is the one that was built for you.

Volume Profile turns your chart on its side and shows you how much traded at every price, not just where price went. That is how you find the levels that actually hold: the Point of Control where the market did the most business, the Value Area where it agreed on fair price, and the thin gaps it moves through in a hurry. The concept is well known. What sets a Volume Profile apart is how completely and how cleanly it is implemented, and that is exactly where SabrTrader's version stands out. This page walks through every feature and every setting, so you can see the full depth of the tool before you ever install it.

Why traders choose our Volume Profile

It is genuinely complete

Volume Profile and full Market Profile in one indicator: TPO structure, Initial Balance, single prints, day types and volume nodes, not a bare histogram you have to bolt extras onto.

It reads in real time

Developing POC, developing Value Area and developing VWAP form live as the session prints, so you see fair value migrate while it happens instead of after the close.

It bends to your style

Five profiling methods and five color modes, plus custom session times and fully editable colors, sizes and labels. Scalper or swing trader, futures or crypto, it fits.

It is tick accurate and fast

Built from real tick-level volume through your own data feed, rendered natively so it updates on every trade and holds up across the history-to-live seam without lag.

Built for every kind of profile trader

A Volume Profile is only feature-rich if those features map to how real traders work. Ours was built so that whatever kind of trader you are, the tool meets you where you are.

The scalper

You live on a one or five minute chart and need clean intraday levels fast. Use the Session method with the developing POC and Value Area on, smoothing enabled, and the alert engine watching the value area edges so you can act the instant price reacts.

The day trader

You trade today against yesterday. Keep the current and prior session profiles on the chart, extend the prior lines until tested, and watch the Initial Balance and naked POCs to frame the whole session in the first hour.

The swing trader

You care about where value sits over days and weeks. The Rolling method composites a week of sessions into one profile, and the high and low volume nodes hand you the shelves that define the swing.

The Market Profile purist

You grew up on TPO and letters. Overlay the full TPO profile with its own POC and value area, mark single prints and poor highs and lows, and read the day type the way the floor traders did.

That flexibility is the point. You are never fighting a rigid tool to make it show what you need. You set it up once for your style and it simply becomes part of how you read the market.

The core levels, presented properly

Every Volume Profile draws a Point of Control and a Value Area. The difference is in the detail, and SabrTrader gives you all of it, labeled and out of your way.

  • Point of Control (POC). The price with the most traded volume, the fairest price of the auction. Drawn as a bold, labeled line and tracked across sessions so prior POCs stay on your map.
  • Value Area (VAH and VAL). The range that holds your chosen percentage of volume, 68 percent by default and adjustable to any value. The high and low edges are two of the most reliable intraday levels you will trade.
  • VWAP. The session volume weighted average price, the benchmark institutions measure fills against, plotted right on the profile.
  • Session high and low, and mid. Clean markers for the extremes and the midpoint of each profile, with optional price markers on the axis.
  • Day type. The session classified for you as normal, neutral, trend and more, so you know at a glance whether to fade the edges or trade with the move.
  • Live stats card. Total volume, POC, VAH, VAL, VWAP, day type and the Initial Balance range in a compact corner card, always one glance away.
The short version

POC is fair value. The Value Area edges are the boundary of acceptance. High Volume Nodes are walls, Low Volume Nodes are doors. SabrTrader draws all four cleanly, labels them, and keeps the prior sessions on the chart so you always know where price has unfinished business.

Five profiling methods for how you actually trade

This is one of the biggest reasons traders pick our version. You are not stuck with a single fixed profile. You choose how it is built.

Method What it does and when to use it
Session A fresh profile for each regular trading session. The classic day-trader view for reading today against yesterday.
Daily A profile per full calendar day including the overnight auction, for markets that trade around the clock.
Rolling Composites a set number of recent days into one profile. Excellent for swing levels and for seeing where value sits over a week.
Fixed interval Builds profiles over a window you define in minutes, for example a 120-minute block, when you want a custom cadence.
Custom sessions Define up to five of your own session windows with start and end times, so the profile matches the hours you care about, whether that is the cash session, the London open, or a bespoke range.

Five color modes, so the profile reads the way you think

Color is not decoration on a Volume Profile, it is information. SabrTrader ships five distinct color modes, and every color in each of them is editable.

  • Buy/Sell. Splits each price row into aggressive buying and selling side by side, and switches palette inside versus outside the value area. The default, and the richest for order-flow context.
  • Heatmap. A gradient from your low-volume color to your high-volume color, so the busiest prices glow and the shape of the auction pops out instantly.
  • Delta. One color per row keyed on net delta, bull color for net buying and bear color for net selling, with intensity scaling to the size of the imbalance.
  • Delta Volume. Delta direction plus volume saturation, so a high-volume price with strong positive delta shows as the most intense bull color on the chart.
  • Mono. A single clean color for every bin when you want the pure shape of the distribution with nothing else competing for attention.

The Heatmap color mode on an E-mini S&P 500 (ES) 15-minute chart, with several daily profiles side by side. Each session builds its own value area and Point of Control, mapping where the market keeps finding agreement.

Developing value, live as it forms

Waiting for a session to close before you can read its profile means acting on old information. SabrTrader draws the value as it develops.

  • Developing POC. A line that traces where the Point of Control sits at every moment of the live session, so you watch fair value migrate in real time.
  • Developing Value Area. The VAH and VAL as they expand and contract while the auction runs, not just their final resting place.
  • Developing VWAP. The session VWAP forming tick by tick.
  • Smoothing. An optional smoothing pass with an adjustable period, so a noisy intraday profile reads as a clean, tradable shape instead of a jagged one.

A full Market Profile, not just a volume histogram

Volume Profile tells you how much traded at a price. Market Profile, the TPO view, tells you how long the market spent there. Serious auction traders want both, and SabrTrader gives you both in the same indicator.

  • TPO profile and outline. Overlay a Time Price Opportunity profile alongside the volume profile, with its own POC, VAH and VAL, and an optional outline so you can compare time-based and volume-based value at a glance.
  • Single prints. Highlight the single-print gaps where price passed through so fast it left a hole in the time structure. These often get revisited, and marking them turns them into targets.
  • Poor highs and lows. Flag weak, unfinished highs and lows that the market tends to return to and repair.
  • Day type. The session shape classified automatically, so a trend day and a balanced day are labeled, not left for you to guess.

Volume nodes: the walls and the doors

The shape of a profile has meaning. The bulges are High Volume Nodes, the thick shelves where price stalls and reverses. The pinches are Low Volume Nodes, the thin gaps price races through. SabrTrader detects and shades both automatically, extends them forward, and lets you control how many it marks and how far they project, so you see your reaction and breakout zones before price arrives rather than after.

What the shape is telling you

Because SabrTrader draws the whole distribution cleanly, the silhouette of each profile becomes a read in itself, and the day-type label does the classifying for you. A fat, symmetrical shape with a Point of Control in the middle is a balanced session, the kind where the value area edges hold and price rotates back to fair value. That is a fade environment, and the value area rejection and POC retest setups shine. A thin, stretched profile where the developing POC keeps climbing or falling is a trend session, where fading the edges bleeds you and the right move is to trade pullbacks with the trend.

Two bulges joined by a thin waist is a double distribution, the market accepting value at one level, moving decisively, then accepting value at another. That thin waist becomes a line in the sand, and the empty middle a fast-travel zone. A shape fat on top and thin below often marks a rally that ran out of buyers, while the mirror image marks a flush that found support at the lows. You do not have to memorize any of this to benefit from it, because the day type is labeled on the stats card and the volume nodes are shaded for you. But once you learn to glance at the shape, you can classify a session in seconds and know immediately whether to fade or to follow. That single decision, made early and correctly, is the biggest edge a profile gives a discretionary trader, and our implementation is built to hand it to you at a glance.

Initial Balance, naked POC, and the levels that carry forward

Some of the highest-probability references on a chart come from what happened before, and this is where the depth of the tool really shows.

  • Initial Balance. Mark the first hour's range, adjustable in both start time and length, and its extensions. One of the cleanest frameworks for judging whether a day balances or breaks out.
  • Naked POC. A prior Point of Control that price has not yet returned to. These act like unfinished business and make excellent targets. SabrTrader keeps them visible until tested.
  • Migrating POC. Track how the Point of Control drifted across the day, a subtle read on where control is shifting.
  • Prior sessions and extend-until-tested. Choose whether prior lines extend forward until price tags them, for a fixed number of sessions, or not at all, so naked levels stay on your map without cluttering the chart.

Initial Balance zones and single prints enabled in the Mono color mode on a Gold (GC) 15-minute chart. The amber bands mark the Initial Balance range and its extensions, and the horizontal bands highlight single-print levels the market may return to.

Auto-split, paint bars, and the finishing touches

  • Auto-split. Automatically break a long profile into sub-distributions based on volume and time thresholds you set, so a two-part day reads as two profiles instead of one blurred shape.
  • Paint bars. Optionally color the candles themselves by their relationship to the profile for an at-a-glance read.
  • Session dividers and totals. Clean vertical dividers between sessions and an optional total-volume label per session.
  • Full label control. Choose what each pivot label shows, its orientation, and which side of the profile it sits on.

Built-in alerts, so you never miss a level

Every important level in the profile can alert you the moment price interacts with it, delivered as sound, email, or Telegram, with a per-rule cooldown and an adjustable approach distance in ticks.

  • POC touch, and Value Area High or Low touch
  • Naked POC test
  • High Volume Node and Low Volume Node approach
  • Initial Balance break

You set the level once and let the platform watch it for you, so you can step away from the screen without missing the trade.

How to trade with it

All that depth exists to serve a handful of high-quality decisions. Here are the setups our Volume Profile is built to support.

Value area rejection

When price pushes past the Value Area High or Low and then snaps back inside, the market has told you it treated that price as too expensive or too cheap. Fade the excursion back toward the Point of Control, place your risk just beyond the value area edge, and target the fair-value magnet in the middle. This is the bread-and-butter mean-reversion trade on balanced days, and the day-type label plus the developing value area help you confirm the market really is rotating rather than breaking out. Set a value area edge alert and the platform will tell you the moment price gets there.

POC retest and continuation

After price leaves the Point of Control and comes back to it, the reaction is the tell. A clean hold at the POC in the direction of the larger trend is a high-quality continuation entry, because you are buying or selling at the fairest price with the trend behind you. Watch the developing POC to judge whether control is holding at that level or migrating away, which is your early warning that the auction is rotating to a new center.

Low Volume Node breakout

Low Volume Nodes are the thin spots the market races through. When price approaches one with momentum, plan for acceleration, not reversal. Enter on the break of the node with a stop tucked back inside the last High Volume Node, so your risk is anchored to a real structural wall while you catch the fast move through the gap. Because SabrTrader extends the nodes forward, you can see the setup coming before price arrives.

Naked POC target

A prior Point of Control that price has not yet returned to is unfinished business, and the market has a habit of completing it. Naked POCs make excellent profit targets. When you are in a trade and there is a naked POC in your direction, that level is a logical place to take something off, and SabrTrader keeps every one of them on your chart until it is tested.

Initial Balance break

The Initial Balance is the range of the first hour, and range extension past it, especially when it holds, is one of the earliest and cleanest signals that a day is trending rather than balancing. Combine an Initial Balance break with a supportive profile shape and a developing POC migrating in your direction, and you have a genuine, repeatable edge on trend days. None of these setups need a second indicator, which is the whole point: the profile is a complete framework, and our implementation draws all of it cleanly enough to act on.

Getting started on your first chart

You do not need to touch a single setting to get value on day one. Open any chart, add Volume Profile from the indicator list, and it appears immediately on the current session, drawn from the tick-level volume already flowing through your feed, with the Point of Control, Value Area, high and low markers and the stats card on by default.

From there, grow into it. If you day trade one session, keep the method on Session and switch on the developing POC so you can watch fair value move in real time. If you swing trade, flip to the Rolling method and turn on extended prior lines so naked POCs stay visible as forward targets. Want the full Market Profile read? Enable the TPO overlay and the Initial Balance. Prefer a calm chart? Turn everything off except the current and prior profiles with their POC and value area. The defaults are tuned for a fast, readable dark chart, and every color, size and label is yours to change. Because it is a native SabrTrader indicator rather than a bolted-on script, it renders fast, updates on every trade, and runs on multiple charts and instruments at once without slowing anything down.

Works on every market and every timeframe

Volume Profile works anywhere there is real traded volume: index and commodity futures, stocks, ETFs, and crypto. The screenshots on this page span the Nasdaq, the S&P, crude oil and gold, all on 15-minute charts, but the same logic reads a one-minute scalp and a daily swing view just as cleanly. Because SabrTrader builds every profile from tick-level volume through your own data feed, the levels are trustworthy on every instrument you trade.

Frequently asked questions

What makes SabrTrader's Volume Profile different from others?

Depth and completeness. It combines Volume Profile and full Market Profile in one indicator, with five color modes, five profiling methods, developing value in real time, TPO, volume nodes, Initial Balance, naked POC tracking, single prints, day types and a built-in alert engine. Most platforms give you a fraction of that.

Which color modes are available?

Five: Buy/Sell, Heatmap, Delta, Delta Volume and Mono. Every color in every mode is editable, so you can match the profile to your chart theme and the way you read the tape.

Can I see the profile build in real time?

Yes. Developing POC, developing Value Area and developing VWAP form live as the session prints, with optional smoothing, so you read fair value as it migrates rather than waiting for the close.

Does it include Market Profile and TPO?

Yes. You can overlay the full TPO Market Profile with its own POC and value area, plus single prints, poor highs and lows, and automatic day-type classification, all in the same indicator.

Can I use it on stocks and crypto, not just futures?

Yes. It works on any market with real traded volume, including stocks, ETFs, index and commodity futures, and crypto, and on every timeframe from a one-minute scalp to a daily swing view.

Is it included, or a paid add-on?

It is included with a SabrTrader Pro, Scale or Lifetime subscription, along with the rest of the order-flow suite and the AI tools. You can also start on the free tier to explore the platform.
