SabrTrader vs Bookmap

A Bookmap alternative that is also your charting platform.

Bookmap invented the liquidity heatmap and it is still very good at it. Most traders run it on a second monitor next to the platform they actually chart and trade in. SabrTrader puts the same read on your main chart, next to the footprint, the indicators and the order ticket.

The short version

One heatmap specialist, or one platform that includes a heatmap

That is the real choice. Bookmap shows you the order book. SabrTrader shows you the same order book, plus everything you would otherwise open a second program for.

SabrTrader is the better fit when

  • You are tired of two platforms. Heatmap, candles, footprint, indicators and order entry share one chart and one data connection.
  • You want Market by Order without add-ons. Per-order depth and iceberg detection are part of the Pro plan.
  • You also need real charting. 11 bar types, 200+ indicators, drawing tools, a Market Analyzer and backtesting.
  • You want to record your own MBO data. Log per-order data for the instruments you choose and keep it.
  • You trade several prop accounts and want the copier in the same window.

What to know before you move

  • You can read it in the first minute. Liquidity bands, volume bubbles and best bid and ask look the way you know them.
  • You keep your data feed. The same Rithmic or Databento login works here. No second data bill.
  • Nothing to cancel on day one. Run it next to Bookmap on the same market and compare.
  • Your MBO history starts building at once. Record per-order data for your instruments from the first session.
  • Mac and Linux are on the way. Both versions are planned for Q1 2027.

What it costs

One plan instead of a plan plus add-ons

With Bookmap the Market by Order tools, the footprint and Market Profile come as add-ons or with the higher plan. In SabrTrader they are all in Pro, together with the charting platform itself.

SabrTrader Bookmap
Heatmap, MBO, footprint and TPO together Pro, $85 a month Global+, $99 a month, plus the MBO Bundle add-on
Market by Order tools Included in Pro MBO Bundle add-on, priced separately
Footprint and TPO Included in Pro Footprint with Global, TPO with Global+
A charting platform to go with it It is the charting platform Usually a second product
Trade copier Included on every plan Add-on
Pay once $1,499 Perpetual, everything in Ultimate, on two computers Lifetime licences on some plans, for one live computer
Computers running at the same time 2 on Ultimate and Perpetual, 1 on Pro 1. A second instance on Global+ is for replay only

Exchange data is extra on both. Bookmap sells its own CME feed, and SabrTrader reads the Rithmic, Databento or dxFeed data you already pay for.

The read you know

Same picture, with your indicators on top of it

Bright bands are heavy resting liquidity. Dark areas are thin. The step lines trace best bid and ask, and the bubbles show who actually traded. If you read Bookmap today, you can read this in the first minute.

  • It is a normal chart underneath. Add VWAP, a volume profile or your own indicator to the same pane.
  • Works on second charts. People scalp three-second heatmap charts with indicators loaded.
  • Falls back to Level 2 cleanly when your feed has no per-order data.

What you gain

Find the level, time it, place the order. One window.

The heatmap shows where size is resting. The SuperDOM shows the queue at each price, order by order. The footprint shows what traded inside each bar. All three read the same book, so they never disagree.

  • Iceberg detection and aggressive limit highlighting on the ladder.
  • ATM brackets attach a stop and target the moment you are filled.
  • One connection to keep alive at the open, not two.

"You can log your favourite instruments with true MBO from Rithmic, not simulated as per NinjaTrader and Tradovate. This is huge. It easily kept up with NQ market open with no apparent drops."

Before you ask

Bookmap users ask us this

Is the SabrTrader heatmap as good as Bookmap?

It shows the same things: resting liquidity over time, volume bubbles, best bid and ask, and icebergs on MBO data. SabrTrader's advantage is that the heatmap lives on a full chart with indicators and order entry, and that you can record your own MBO data. The trial unlocks it, so judge it on your own market.

Which data feed do I need for Market by Order?

Rithmic or Databento. On other feeds the heatmap and the SuperDOM use Level 2 depth.

Can I use my prop firm Rithmic account?

Yes, as long as your firm enables market depth on the login. That is the same requirement Bookmap has.

Is the heatmap an extra charge?

No. Heatmap, MBO depth, SuperDOM and footprint are all part of Pro at $85 a month. Nothing is sold as an add-on.

Does SabrTrader run on Mac?

Not yet. Mac and Linux versions are planned for Q1 2027. Today SabrTrader runs on Windows.

Can I use it on two computers?

Ultimate and Perpetual run on two computers at the same time. Bookmap's knowledge base says it cannot be used on several PCs at once, apart from a second instance in replay mode on Global+.

Can I run both for a while?

Yes. SabrTrader installs next to Bookmap and connects with the same Rithmic login.

Put the heatmap on the chart you trade from.

Open it next to Bookmap on the same market and the same feed. Keep whichever one you stop looking at.
