ATAS vs Bookmap

ATAS vs Bookmap: footprint or heatmap, and the platform that has both.

ATAS shows you what traded inside each bar. Bookmap shows the orders still waiting in the book, and most order flow traders end up wanting both reads. SabrTrader puts the footprint, the heatmap and the per-order ladder on one chart, in one plan.

Footprint or heatmap

ATAS or Bookmap?

ATAS is a footprint and volume analysis platform, so it shows you the trades inside each bar. Bookmap is a liquidity heatmap built around the order book, so what you see there is resting orders over time. If you'd rather not choose, SabrTrader has the footprint, the heatmap, a Market by Order ladder, a backtester and a trade copier in one Windows platform, on one data feed.

ATAS: the footprint

What ATAS is best at: the inside of the bar

ATAS built its name on the footprint. Cluster charts come with every plan, in over 400 preset variations by ATAS's own count. You also get 240+ indicators, a Smart DOM and options tools on the higher plans.

The heatmap is the newer part and still carries a beta label. For per-order tools such as iceberg detection you need Ultra, the top plan.

Bookmap: the book

What Bookmap is best at: the book over time

Bookmap is built around one picture: resting liquidity drawn as colour, with volume dots for the trades that hit it. It records and replays the order book.

Want the footprint, Market Profile or Market by Order tools? Those are add-ons, or they come with the higher package. Classic charting is limited to order flow studies.

After the read

What neither ATAS nor Bookmap gives you

Both stop at reading the market.

A way to test the read

Neither has a backtester that we could find. Both point you to replay. In SabrTrader you backtest on tick data, sweep parameters and run walk-forward tests.

An AI that reads the chart

We found no AI assistant in either one. Ours reads the bars, the footprint and your positions before it answers, and it uses your own model key.

A second computer

ATAS allows one simultaneous login, and Bookmap can't run live on several PCs at once. With either of them, a second computer means a second licence. SabrTrader Ultimate and Perpetual run on two computers at the same time, on one licence.

Both reads, one chart

How SabrTrader covers both reads

  • The footprint. Start from 14 templates, change every colour, column and threshold, then save your own.
  • The liquidity heatmap. Resting size over time, 3D volume bubbles, best bid and ask as step lines.
  • The SuperDOM. Individual orders at each price on Market by Order data, with iceberg detection.
  • Your own MBO recordings. Record per-order data for the instruments you choose and keep it.
  • The trade copier. One master, many followers, across separate Rithmic logins.

It's all in Pro. Nothing is sold as an add-on. See the full order flow desk.

If you switch

What it takes to switch

  • Keep your feed. The same Rithmic or Databento login works here.
  • Rebuild your footprint in minutes. Pick the closest template, adjust it, save it.
  • Run it side by side first. SabrTrader installs next to ATAS or Bookmap. Nothing to cancel on day one.
  • Start without paying. You get 14 days of full access, and after that the Free plan stays.
  • Windows today. Mac and Linux versions are planned for Q1 2027.

Asked a lot

ATAS vs Bookmap questions

Is ATAS better than Bookmap for footprint charts?

For footprints, ATAS is the specialist of the two. Every ATAS plan has them. In Bookmap the footprint is an add-on included with Global and Global+. SabrTrader matches it with 14 fully customisable templates.

Is Bookmap better than ATAS for the heatmap?

The heatmap is what Bookmap is built on, the core of the product. ATAS labels its own heatmap beta. SabrTrader draws the same kind of heatmap behind the candles of a normal chart, so your indicators and order entry sit on top of it.

Can I use ATAS and Bookmap together?

Yes. They're separate programs and can run next to each other, but then you have two licences and two setups. SabrTrader shows the footprint and the heatmap in one workspace on one feed.

Can I backtest in ATAS or Bookmap?

We couldn't find a backtester in either. Both have replay for practice. SabrTrader has a tick backtester on every plan, and you can use order flow indicators as strategy conditions.

Can I run ATAS or Bookmap on two computers at once?

No. The ATAS licence agreement limits you to "one simultaneous login". Bookmap's knowledge base says "you cannot use Bookmap simultaneously on multiple PCs", apart from a replay instance on Global+. SabrTrader Ultimate and Perpetual include 2 seats, so one plan runs on your desk PC and your laptop at the same time. Billed monthly that's $115 for both computers, against two ATAS Pro licences at €69.95 each or two Bookmap Global+ licences at $99 each.

Stop choosing between the footprint and the heatmap.
